Basildon United 0 Tilbury 3 (Att 168)

Tilbury continued there fine form with a comfortable victory over rivals Basildon United, giving manager Marc Harrison a happy return to his former club. There was just one change from last week's game at hometo Dereham, with captain Kris Newby returning to the line up in place of the unlucky Harry Norman.

Tilbury started well and created the first chance inside 2 minutes when Oli Spooner shot at goal, which saw the ball go through the legs of keeper Emmanuel Olajide, who had to back peddle to collect the ball, as it was going towards the line.

Basildon responded by winning a free kick near the edge of the box, but Ashley Blackburn’s strike was way over the top.

On 17 Lewis Smith's effort was well blocked by former Docker Conor Mead.

Tilbury had to wait until just on the half hour when Mitchell Gilbey played the ball through and George Sykes latched on to fire in to the corner of the net. On 45 Tilbury took a firm grip on the game when Oli Spooner picked up on a defensive mistake, who then set up Lewis Smith who beat 2 defenders and fired home.

Tilbury dominated the second half with both Mitchell Gilbey and Lewis Smith having good chances to increase the lead. On 72 Tilbury confirmed the points when Lewis Smith beat 3 defenders and hit a pile driver into the net, giving the keeper no chance for the goal of the day. It was Smith's 10th goal in 9 games, pushing him towards the top of the Bostik North goal-scoring charts.

The goal seem to kill the game off, as both sides played out the last 15 minutes with little goalmouth action.

The result sees Tilbury move into 8th position and giving Tilbury a record of 7 wins, 2 draws and a loss since Marc Harrision took over the managers role.

Tilbury are back in action next Saturday, when they make a trip over the Essex borders to AFC Sudbury, 3.00pm kick off.

Tilbury: Madden, Boswell, Burgess, Newby, Phillips (Anderson 76), Salami, Gilbey, Barton (Norman 76), Sykes (Paxman 69), Spooner and Smith

Subs unused Purdy
